Neighborhood
Daan district, where both National Taiwan University and National Taiwan Normal Univeristy are located, is an important educational, commercial, and cultural center of Taipei City. Historic sites, restaurants and boutiques dot the neighborhood around the campus; two night markets and the famous Daan Forest Park are all within walking distance.
Daan District
Daan District is home for many major universities and institutes for higher education. For this reason, this area is famous for its literary and scholarly connections. Many scholars and artists live in this area. Since the Japanese colonial era, this area had been home for most of the governmental dormitories for professors from both Taihoku College and Taihoku Imperial University. Though many of these Japanese dormitories have been replaced by high-end apartment buildings, some remain and are preserved as historic sites. For example, Liang Shih-Chiu Residence, now a public gallery for random exhibitions, was formerly the residence of Prof. FUMIDA Yoshisuke from Taihoku College. After the Second World War, the dormitory was passed along to NTNU, and it was assigned as the residence of Prof. LIANG Shih-Chiu, a well known writer and scholar on Shakespeare studies. As another exmaple, Qīngtián Qīliù was formerly the residence of Prof. ADACHI Masashi from Taihoku Imperial University. The building was later claimed by National Taiwan University. QingTian QiLiu is now a refined restaurant and cafe; it also functions as a gallery occasionally.

Yongkang Street
(永康街) Shopping Area
Located north of the NTNU Library Campus, Yongkang Jie (永康街) Shopping Area is one of the major tourist spots in Taipei City. Thousands of tourists flood to this area for Taiwanese food and local specialties. Two of the "must eats" are Xiaolongbao and Fruits Baobing (mainly Mango). For Xiaolongbao restaurants, Dingtaifeng and Kaochi are recommended. It is easy to recognize places for Fruits Baobing: Smoothie House is recommended for its tourists-friendly menu.
Shida Night Market (師大夜市) and Gongguan Night Market
(公館夜市)
Shida Night Market and Gongguang Night Market are two major student-oriented night markets. Night Markets are congregations of shops and vendors that operate at night. These shops and vendors offer places for a variety of late night activities from dinner to leisure operations.
Shida Night Market is located south of the NTNU Students Dormitory. To provide night snacks for hungry students, shops and vendors on streets closer to Students Dormitory offer an array of local specialties. Shida Night Market is also famous for its boutiques and numerous clothing shops.
Gongguan Night Market is another shopping area that is famous for local foods. It is located right next to Gongguang MRT station, which is on the edge of National Taiwan University. It is also a congregated area of independent bookstores and cultural galleries.
